Pickleball enthusiasts make final push in court renovation campaign
January 19, 2021
ASHLAND – With just a few weeks left in their fundraising campaign to replace the courts at Cahn Grove, local Pickleball enthusiasts are hoping the continued generosity of the community will help put them over the top.
In November 2020, the Ashland Pickleball Association initiated a campaign to undertake a major renovation project at Cahn Grove Park, with the goal of transforming the existing, aging outdoor tennis court surface into a modern 6-court complex.
The City of Ashland has endorsed APA’s efforts to provide a sport facility for the benefit of the citizens of Ashland. The city has also committed to ensure there will be lighting and paved walkways installed at the park when the courts are completed.
The goal of the campaign was to raise a minimum of $130,000 between November 1, 2020 and January 31, 2021. With a lead gift from Robert and Janet Archer and court sponsorships from Ashland County Community Foundation, Samaritan Hospital Foundation, University Hospital Samaritan Medical Center, Tom and Bonnie McGee, Jack and Norma Sturgeon, along with generous gifts from 46 other Ashland residents, pledges total $109,123— 84 percent of the campaign goal.
“While we still have a way to go,” Norma Sturgeon, APA President, said, “we are so fortunate to live in a caring community that has given to our campaign, which will benefit the entire community. We feel confident we will reach our goal to have top-notch Pickleball courts and to provide a family atmosphere to be enjoyed by all Ashlanders.”
There is still one court sponsorship opportunity available with a donation of $10,000. Any individual, family, business or organization interested in this naming opportunity can contact the Ashland Pickleball Association directors at APA44805@gmail.com. General questions may also be emailed to receive further information.
To contribute to the campaign, please make checks payable to “City of Ashland/ Pickleball Fund” and send checks to Ashland Pickleball Association, c/o Darla Plice, 1190 Twp Rd. 1426, Ashland, OH 44805.
