Frequently Asked Questions

What are the basic qualifications to host a fellow?

The organization must be a nonprofit located in and serving Ashland County; have a physical location open to the public with at least one full time staff member, present a specific project with a clear scope and description and have a dedicated supervisor, desk/office space, and supplies for the fellow.

What type of project would be a good fit for a fellow?

Any project that is meaningful and substantive and allows the Fellow to engage with the mission of your organization would be a good fit. Projects that have a clear direction and outcome and can be applied to the project matrix to be completed within the 10-week timeframe tend to have the most successful outcomes.

What obligations do the Fellows have?

Fellows must attend an orientation, three professional development days, an educational outing, and the final Capstone Presentations. They are highly encouraged to attend the bi-weekly check-ins and work sessions for the Capstone Project.

What are the expectations of the host nonprofit organization?

Host organizations are expected to attend orientation in May and a one-on-one scheduled midpoint check-in in July. They are expected to populate the project matrix outlining the tasks, timeline, and deliverables to guide the work of the fellow. Host organizations should include the fellow in meetings when possible and offer a dedicated work space as well as any materials necessary to complete the outlined project.

How long is the Fellowship?

The Fellowship timeframe covers 11 weeks so that a week of vacation can be built into the summer schedule. Fellows are expected to work a full 10 weeks of the program for at least 32 hours per week.

How does the application process work?

Applications for nonprofit sites are reviewed by our fellowship team. Once the group of host site applicants is accepted, they will be notified accordingly. Student applications are then reviewed and selected students will then be given an opportunity to review the selected host sites and select their top two choices. As matches are made, we will ask each nonprofit site to conduct a brief phone or video interview with the student fellow applicant to make sure a good fit is found. Once matches are confirmed both parties will be notified of the final summer placement details.
