Players honor influential coach (Coach Doug McDonald Honorary Scholarship)

Former Ashland High School basketball players established the Coach Doug McDonald Honorary Scholarship Fund to venerate their former coach and mentor.

Doug McDonald graduated from Fostoria High School in 1959 and played on a basketball scholarship at The Ohio State University with legends Jerry Lucas, Gary Bradds, Bob Knight, Larry Siegfried and John Havlicek, his roommate and an eight-time NBA champion with the Boston Celtics.

McDonald was the Ashland High School boys’ basketball coach from 1969-1972, during which he compiled a 70-14 overall record, including four Cardinal Conference championships and appearances in three district finals.
