Community Foundation announces 30 grants for nonprofits

ASHLAND – Ashland County Community Foundation is pleased to announce the recipients of its recently awarded Community Grants.
The board of trustees approved 30 grants totaling $263,085 for causes ranging from building improvements for nonprofit organizations to suicide prevention programs.
“We are so inspired to see the ways these organizations meet needs and improve lives in Ashland County, and we are pleased to partner with them to fund these efforts,” said ACCF Community Engagement Director Courtney McNaull. “Along with the many nonprofit agencies doing great work in our community, we are grateful to the generous donors who make these grants possible.”
Grants were awarded to the following organizations to support programs or projects of community-wide benefit:
A Kid Again received a grant to send Ashland County children with life-threatening conditions on cost-free adventures with their families.
ACCESS received a grant for seed money for a construction project to renovate a newly purchased building into apartments.
Advocates For Families received a grant to upgrade its website, to better serve clients and improve community outreach.
Appleseed Community Mental Health Center received a grant to add private office space capacity, enabling the staff to serve more Ashland County residents.
Ashland Christian Health Center received a grant for landscaping and digital marketing upgrades.
Ashland County Cancer Association received a grant to partner with the Old Uniontown Quilt Guild to provide quilts for cancer patients registering for services.
Ashland County Council on Alcoholism & Drug Abuse received a grant to replace the decking on the front porch, side ramp and rear entrance at the main office.
Ashland Schine’s Theatre Organization received a grant to fund the purchase of tables for use in the pit area during rentals/events as well as dollies to move the furniture.
Ashland Symphony Orchestra received a grant to promote sustainability through staff restructuring.
Ashland Youth Baseball Association received a grant for safety gear for umpires and catchers; equipment boxes for fields; first aid kits; batting helmets and a team bat.
Ashland Youth Football League received a grant for safety and training equipment.
Crestview Youth Cheerleading League received a grant to expand need-based scholarships to assist participants with fees and apparel costs.
Hayesville Opera House received a grant for a restroom renovation project.
Hillsdale High School Fine Arts Department received a grant to purchase new band instruments that can be loaned out to low-income families at no cost.
Jobs for Ohio Graduates received a grant to fund academic intervention and career pathway programming for Ashland County youth and young adults.
Junior Achievement of North Central Ohio received a grant to expand programming within Ashland County, including an interactive career fair.
LifeAct received a grant to support middle and high school suicide prevention programs for Ashland County students.
Loudonville Lions Club received a grant to replace old carpeting with new vinyl flooring.
Nova Community United Methodist Church received a grant to help fund the replacement of the fellowship hall roof.
Pathfinder Farms received a grant to support the new Hybrid Program, which provides short-term vocational and life skills training opportunities for teens.
Rape Crisis Domestic Violence Safe Haven received a grant support the cost of installing a replacement phone system at the shelter.
Relationships Under Construction received a grant to help support relationship education in Ashland County schools.
Sullivan Fire and Rescue Association received a grant to equip volunteers with basic emergency medical kits as well as to provide CPR and first aid classes to the public.
The Society for Handicapped Citizens of Medina County received a grant for kitchen utensils, appliances, and storage for The Link Ashland.
Third Street Family Health Services received a grant to update or replace essential dental equipment at the 9th Street Dental location.
United Church Residences of Ashland Ohio, Inc. (Mill Run Place) received a grant for new flooring and paint in the first-floor hallways to reduce the fall risk, cleaning costs and to improve the living environment.
United Community Club Districts 1&2 of Mohican Township received a grant to fund the preservation of its building exterior.
Additionally, three organizations received Community Grant distributions in recognition of Hazel Myers Spreng. They include Ashland Public Library, First United Methodist Church and United Way of Ashland County.
Along with support from The Norma Foundation, ACCF’s Community Grants are made possible by generous donations from our community. With a minimum of $10,000, paid at one time or over a period of five years, donors can create a named, permanently endowed fund designated specifically to support Community Grants.
“This type of fund is unique because it gives us the ability to meet the community’s changing needs by making grants to great local programs and projects every year, but at the same time, each individual fund can bear the donor’s own name, or the name of an honoree, to create a lasting legacy,” said Jim Cutright, ACCF President/CEO.
